Description

Cock-a-doodle doo! These bad boys are big, colourful and sparkly. They are here to make some noise.

What is a lapel pin?

It is a short pin with an end cap that is locked and unlocked through pinching. The pin is usually less than 2 cm long. Sometimes called a tie tack these pins were designed for jackets rather than ties as a traditional tie tack has a t-bar and chain. This type were popular in the 1940s-1970s. These lapel pins also look great and will be secure on hats, bags, jackets and jumpers. Personal, jaunty and often a reflection of interests, associations or souvenirs their popularity only increased with the development of industrial jewellery making techniques in the 1930s.

Fast forward to the 1950s and lapel pins begin to be worn by everyone on their lapels. Lapel pins are still manufactured and sold today and often worn to show affiliations or interests. The vintage ones are designed and cast with much more detail and elegance.

And then the 1980s…where our story ends. They get big, bigger and biggest! This collection features a menagerie of animals and birds as well as plants and other figurative items. This collection is unworn. 1980s. Enamel and lead crystal rhinestones. Silver tone metal with matching clip. What will you pin yours on?

Almost 3 cm. Mint condition.

Audra’s Brooches is my unique collection of vintage or antique brooches, pins and clips. I do not change any of the original designs. I simply clean, polish and photograph the pieces before researching their history and style. I also test the pins and safety clasps. My brooches date from 1880 to 1980 and are most often one-of-a-kind. I do sometimes stock multiples of items by particular designers or a job lot of unworn items. These are a rare but exciting find.

I have also created a fashion fix to allow everyone to wear any pin on any fabric. Every brooch is paired with a pad to hold antique pins securely and ensure weighty mid-century pins are supported and sit up properly wherever and on whatever you put them. You can pop the pad behind lapels, inside hats, waistbands, or any of your favourite brooch locations.

Audra’s Brooches. Everything you can pin, clip or fasten to whatever you fancy.
